One Life's Legacy Leaves Lasting Impact on Local Community

Last updated 3 months ago

It all goes back to our mission: to be the steward of a community resource; life saving blood. Here is a recent story that has touched the CBCC community, reminding us about our mission and the impact of our donors!

To say that Isabella, Ib, and her family are an inspiration is an understatement.  Diagnosed on October 4, 2007 with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma at the age of 2, Ib has been fighting this rare form of cancer for over four years.  She completed 2 MIBG treatments at CHOP and is currently in consideration for a 3rd treatment the first week in February.  In the past four years, Ib and her family have been making an impact in the entire community, by raising awareness and funds for kids’ cancer research and blood donation.

Recently, Brett Morgan, a neighbor of Ib’s grandparents, was so inspired by Ib’s courage he signed up to participate and fundraise for the Isabella Santos Foundation in the upcoming Charlotte 24 Hours of Booty.  A couple weeks ago while crossing the street to get to work; he was involved in a fatal accident.  We send our deepest sympathy to Brett’s family.  Among his many other accomplishments, to date the money raised in his name for the Isabella Santos Foundation is over $18,000--a gift that will benefit many children battling childhood cancer.

It is truly extraordinary what our community is capable of--with everyday acts of strength and generosity.  We can all make a mark on our community, be it through blood donation, volunteering or fundraising for inspirational patients like Isabella.

Here is a recent video of Ib singing along to one of her favorite “big girl” musicians, Taylor Swift.
